Troubleshooting

My Phone Won’t Pair (Bluetooth, CarPlay, or Android Auto)

Use this article if…

Quick answer

Delete the MK4 from your phone's Bluetooth list and from the CarPlay/Android Auto car list. Reboot the phone and the headunit, then pair again from the MK4 wizard with a known-good data cable.

Problem

  • Your phone won’t pair, or CarPlay / Android Auto / Bluetooth won’t start or stay connected.

Symptoms

  • Your Bluetooth never finishes pairing, or it drops straight away.
  • CarPlay / AA sits on connecting.
  • You can take calls, but apps won’t project.
  • USB works, wireless doesn’t, or the other way round.

Cause

  • The pairing is stale after a reinstall or a big phone update.
  • Your phone permissions are blocked.
  • The cable is charge-only, or the USB port is worn.
  • Battery saver is shutting down BT or Wi-Fi.
  • You've got too many BT devices on in the cab.
  • Your headunit firmware may need a PVS update for your phone generation.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. Delete the MK4 from your phone BT list and from the CarPlay / AA car lists, reboot the phone and the headunit, then pair again from the MK4 menus.
  2. Approve contacts and notifications when your phone prompts you.
  3. Plug a known data USB cable straight into the MK4, no cheap extension.
  4. Android: turn off battery optimisation for AA and Bluetooth.
  5. iPhone: remove the car under Settings → General → CarPlay, then rediscover.
  6. Turn off extra BT gadgets for one test drive.

Notes

Firmware & updates (quick)

  • Check build: SettingsSystemAbout device / About tablet (labels vary), then screenshot the build number for your email.
  • When it’s relevant: After PVS gives you a package, or if you still can’t project once you’ve swapped the cable, forgotten and paired again, and sorted stable power. Not before. Full steps: MK4 firmware & updates.
  • Safe rules: PVS-supplied files only, strong battery, don’t unplug USB while it’s running.
  • Stop, contact PVS: Unofficial flash, boot loop after an update, burning smell or a brick.
