Troubleshooting

Bluetooth Connects but No Audio

Use this article if…

  • Your phone pairs but media / nav audio is silent, so it's Bluetooth routing, not “won’t pair.”
  • If pairing fails → Phone pairing. If all sources are silentNo audio from speakers.

Quick answer

If your Bluetooth pairs but stays silent, media audio is usually switched off on your phone's Bluetooth profile, or the volume sits at zero on the phone while projection holds the audio. Turn media audio on, then raise the volume on both your phone and the MK4.

Problem

  • Your Bluetooth pairs but music or nav audio is silent.

Symptoms

  • Your phone shows connected for calls/media, but music or Maps voice is silent.
  • You only get sound while CarPlay/Android Auto is running, not on plain Bluetooth.

Cause

  • Media audio (A2DP-style playback) is switched off on your phone’s Bluetooth profile for the MK4.
  • Media volume is at zero on your phone or the MK4, or you've got a focus or do-not-disturb mode blocking playback.
  • A CarPlay or Android Auto session is claiming the audio while you still see plain Bluetooth connected.
  • Your phone generation and the MK4 have a Bluetooth stack or firmware mismatch. That's an edge case.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. On your phone, open Bluetooth, tap the MK4, then turn on Media audio (Android) or the equivalent.
  2. Disconnect CarPlay/Android Auto for the test, then play a local MP3 over Bluetooth only.
  3. Raise the volume on both your phone and the headunit, then exit any focus mode that mutes media.
  4. Forget the pairing on your phone and on the MK4, reboot both, then pair clean.
  5. If you still hear nothing on all sources, go to No sound from speakers.
