Troubleshooting

CarPlay Keeps Disconnecting

Use this article if…

  • Your CarPlay starts, then drops or stutters (often wireless), rather than “never connects.”
  • If it won’t connect at all → Phone pairing. If your iPhone is fighting over Wi-Fi routing → CarPlay vs Wi-Fi.

Quick answer

If your wireless CarPlay drops mid-drive, a clean re-pair usually sorts it. Forget the car in your iOS CarPlay settings, delete the MK4 from Bluetooth, reboot your phone and the unit, then pair again. Test with a short Apple-certified cable after that.

Problem

  • Your CarPlay drops mid-drive, or the audio stutters then the session ends.

Symptoms

  • CarPlay runs fine, then kicks you back to the MK4 home screen mid-drive.
  • Audio stutters, then the session ends.
  • It reconnects after you park and open your phone.

Cause

  • Your wireless CarPlay link is marginal. RF congestion, distance, obstructions or competing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the cab can all weaken it.
  • Low Power Mode or aggressive Wi-Fi power saving on your iPhone drops or stalls the session.
  • If you've updated, a stale CarPlay or Bluetooth pairing blocks clean session negotiation.
  • Brief low supply voltage or a poor ground when you're running headlights, fans or charging loads.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. Forget the car under Settings → General → CarPlay, delete the MK4 from Bluetooth, reboot your phone and the headunit, then pair again from the MK4 side.
  2. Turn off Low Power Mode for the test day.
  3. Try wired CarPlay with a short Apple-certified lead. If it's stable, you know the problem is wireless-specific.
  4. Cut back the other Bluetooth devices in the cab for one trip.
  5. If you get drops on bumps or under a high charge load, quick-check your battery voltage and earths using won’t turn on / keeps restarting.

Notes

Firmware & updates (quick)

  • Check your build: SettingsSystemAbout device / About tablet (see the update guide).
  • When it’s relevant: the drops carry on after you've re-paired cleanly, tested a wired cable and checked supply. PVS may then give you a build, so don’t flash before those.
  • Safe rules: PVS-supplied packages only, engine charging, and leave the USB in until the unit reboots.
  • Stop, contact PVS: unofficial image, worse after a flash, or a burning smell.
