Use this article if…
- You're running MK4 first-boot (wizard, Wi-Fi, mic, Google account, updates), not a phone-fault or camera-fault article.

Quick answer
Most first-boot trouble is Wi-Fi, a wrong date and time, Google sign-in in a bad webview, or a mic test you ran before the plug was seated. If Wi-Fi won't join or the Wi-Fi screen sticks, try a hotspot, forget the network, then get real internet on it. Skip the sign-in and add the account under Settings, Skip the mic test if the wizard lets you, and use PVS firmware only.
Problem
- Your harness is done and you're running the MK4 setup wizard and network for the first time.
Symptoms
- The wizard loops or reboots.
- Wi-Fi won't join, or you're stuck on the Wi-Fi setup screen.
- You can't get the microphone test in the wizard to pass.
- Google account sign-in errors, loops or tells you it couldn't sign in.
Cause
- Network, date and time, mic routing and account webviews all gate first-boot. If one of them is weak, you get a wizard that looks broken.
- Without the quick-start, you can easily get firmware over USB and mic placement wrong.
Fix Step-by-step
- Confirm stable power before you trust the wizard. Idle the engine if the battery is soft, then re-check harness constant, ACC and earth. Common mistake: you chase setup errors while voltage dips at the radio plug or a fuse is weak.
- Work through the prompts in order (language → terms → Wi-Fi and so on). If your unit reboots mid-wizard, remove every USB device and retest. If it still loops, → Power / restarts.
- Wi-Fi won't join: re-type the password, prefer 2.4 GHz if your router splits SSIDs, move closer and keep off guest or captive-only networks during setup. Stuck on the Wi-Fi step (spinning, no Next): wait on a strong signal, then forget the network and re-add, key-cycle the headunit, or switch to a phone hotspot. A wrong date and time breaks sign-in, so set automatic date & time as soon as Settings lets you. Says connected but nothing loads, → Internet on MK4 (captive portal, DNS, SIM).
- Google account won't sign in: fix internet first (previous step), because without stable data you'll keep hitting errors. Confirm automatic date and time. In the wizard, use Skip if it's offered, finish to the home screen, then add the account under Settings → Accounts (the built-in browser there is often more reliable). For 2-step verification, approve the prompt on your phone or use a backup code, not just the password. Family Link or child-only prompts can stop you adding an account on this class of device, so use an adult account for setup or skip it and add the account later.
- Firmware / USB updates: use packages from PVS only, and follow MK4 firmware & updates for build checks, safe USB rules and when you should stop. If an update hangs, power-cycle with the USB removed, then contact PVS before you retry.
- Microphone test fails: fully re-seat the mic plug, keep the cable off kinks and hot ducts, aim the pickup toward the driver, then retry with the HVAC fan low. If it still fails, use Skip if the wizard lets you, complete setup, then check levels in sound/voice settings. Ongoing issues → External microphone.
- When the home screen is stable, pair your phone. If CarPlay or Android Auto won't start, → Phone pairing · CarPlay first connect.

Firmware & updates (quick)
- Check your build: Finish the basic wizard where you can, then go to Settings → System → About device / About tablet. You'll find the full paths in the firmware guide.
- When it's relevant: PVS emailed you a package, or support tied your symptom to a release. Never download random Android 10/11 images from forums.
- Safe rules: Strong battery, a stick formatted FAT32, not exFAT, and the size doesn't matter. Don't unplug until the unit reboots itself.
- Stop and contact PVS: Wizard brick, a loop after a flash, or an unknown file you tried.
