How Do I Wire Reverse and Extra Cameras to the MK4?

Use this article if…

  • You're wiring cameras to the MK4 for the first time. This is the install guide, not the symptom list.
  • You want a camera (front, side or cabin) running full time, not only in reverse.
  • Something fails after you've fitted it → MK4 camera troubleshooting. Other headunits → Cameras hub.

Quick answer

Your MK4 camera install goes wrong fastest when the AHD or CVBS setting doesn't match your camera, or when you take reverse sense off a PWM tail tap. Set the format to the camera, meter the trigger at the MK4 loom, and fully latch any 28-pin style adapter.

Want a camera running full time, not only in reverse? The reverse input only shows while you're actually in reverse, so wire that camera to the aux video input, the yellow RCA on Harness A, then select it from the headunit source button and leave it on as long as you like.

Problem

  • You're wiring reverse and extra cameras to the MK4 for the first time.

Symptoms

  • You've got several camera inputs to assign, and you need to pick AHD or CVBS on first wiring.
  • You're not sure how factory reverse integrates on your chassis year.

Cause

  • If you're on a 2023+ facelift LC76, its factory reverse path differs from an older dealer-fitted camera.
  • 28-pin style integrations need a solid +12 V reverse sense. If you tap a PWM tail, it often fails.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. Assign the reverse, front and aux inputs in headunit settings. If you still get a fault, use camera troubleshooting.
  2. Running a camera full time, not just in reverse? The reverse input only displays while you're in reverse, so don't use it for an always-on view. Wire that camera to the aux video input, the yellow RCA on Harness A, then select it from the headunit source or camera button to keep it on continuously. Reverse still takes priority and overrides it the moment you shift into reverse.
  3. Set the camera format to match the camera: CVBS N for a factory or standard analogue camera, AHD 720P25 for a PVS AHD camera. Restart the unit after you change it.
  4. If you're on a 2023+ facelift LC76 with factory reverse, use the approved configuration.
  5. Fit an adapter harness if your earlier dealer camera needs one.
  6. Route AutoChimp-style looms away from heat and the steering.
  7. Meter the reverse trigger at the headunit end and avoid PWM tail taps. No switch when you select reverse? No reverse display.
