How do I remove the factory radio and fit the MK4 fascia?

Use this article if…

Use this when you are physically removing the factory radio and clipping in the MK4 fascia and trim. For fitment and kit-contents checks before you start, use install before you begin; for power, earth, and speaker wiring after the stack is in, use the harness guide.

Quick answer

Clips that will not bite or a gap along one edge on MK4 usually means trim order is wrong or the loom is bunched behind the stack - re-offer the assembly square, relieve harness bulk, then clip evenly before final screws.

Problem

  • You are swapping the factory radio stack for the MK4 fascia and screen.

Symptoms

  • Clips will not seat; gap on one side.
  • Harness bundle trapped behind the screen.
  • Wrong vehicle dash family.

Cause

  • Wrong dash family, clip order, or a thick harness bundle behind the stack stops the fascia seating squarely.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. Disconnect battery negative if your procedure requires it near airbag trim.
  2. Remove surrounding trim; unplug looms and antenna; label if needed.
  3. Remove factory unit; move any brackets the PVS sheet specifies.
  4. Offer MK4 assembly square; clip evenly - no twist.
  5. Screws firm, not over-tight.
  6. Check gaps before zip-tying harnesses.
  7. Next: Route and plug the PVS harness, then run first-time setup.
