- You're fitting our 300 Series style steering wheel upgrade kit to a 76, 78 or 79 Series that has no cruise control.
- The 4-pin plug on your new wheel, with pink, white and blue wires, doesn't match the plug at your clock spring.
- Your clock spring plug is a 10-pin with only one wire in it.
Problem
- Your 70 Series was built before the 2017 DPF model, so it has no factory cruise control. Its clock spring plug is a 10-pin with one wire coming out of it, and that wire is your horn feed.
- The 4-pin plug on your new wheel carries two cruise control pins and a horn pin. A 70 Series with factory cruise has a 4-pin cruise plug, and yours doesn't, so that plug has nothing to connect to.
- You've got the right kit. The 4-pin plug is the one part your vehicle doesn't use.
Fix Step-by-step
- Leave the 4-pin plug unplugged: the pink, white and blue plug on your new wheel isn't needed on your vehicle. Don't connect it to anything.
- Plug your original 10-pin plug into the clock spring: that gives you the horn feed out of the clock spring.
- Connect the horn feed to the wireless module and the horn pad: run it to both, in parallel. Your wireless module takes its power from the horn feed, and your horn pad needs it to sound the horn.
- Carry on with the rest of the install as normal: nothing else in your kit changes.
- Test before your trim goes back on: with the ignition on, check your horn sounds and your wheel buttons work.
Notes
- A 70 Series built from the 2017 DPF model onward has factory cruise control and a 4-pin cruise plug, so this guide isn't for it.
- Not sure which you have? Look at the plug at your clock spring. A 10-pin plug with one wire in it, on a vehicle with no cruise control, means this guide is yours.
- Disconnect your battery and wait out the SRS discharge time in your workshop manual before you touch the airbag connectors, and leave your clock spring where it is while the wheel is off.
