Connect Steering Wheel Controls to an Aftermarket Headunit

Type your headunit's model number to see where the steering lead plugs in, which PVS part connects it, and how to program the buttons. Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC and the PVS MK4.

Find Your Model

Type the model number of your headunit. You'll see where the steering lead plugs in, which PVS part connects it, and how to set up the buttons.

The model number is on the front of the unit or on the label on top of the chassis.

Which PVS Part Connects It

The headunit option you chose with your kit or module decides the part in the box.

With the 28-pin patch lead, the two wires on the kit loom labelled Key 1 and Key 2 aren't used. Tape each one off on its own so they don't touch each other or any metal.

Three-Wire Units

Some headunits have three steering wires instead of a 3.5 mm socket. Join the Key 1 and Key 2 wires on the PVS kit loom to the unit's two steering inputs, matched by the label and colour in each model card. The third wire is the ground: it doesn't need connecting, but you can join it to ground if you need to. Newer headunits use the 3.5 mm socket.
