Design Notes

Controls it never had.

The wireless control module is in the price, matched to the headunit you select.

The 80 Series never had factory steering wheel controls, so every kit includes a wireless control module. The new wheel's buttons talk to that module, which pairs with your aftermarket headunit. The factory radio has no input for wheel controls.

It uses a boss kit mounting system and retains the original horn wiring. Pick your headunit above, then your wheel style and leather colour.

02

Every detail, done properly.

ADR-certified, module included, and supplied with the boss kit for vehicles with no driver airbag.
Feature01

ADR CERTIFIED

Independently assessed for ADR compliance, so your registration, certification and insurance position stay clean. The Certificate of Compliance ships in the box.

Feature02

WIRELESS MODULE INCLUDED

The control module is in the price, matched to the headunit you select. Your factory clockspring stays in the vehicle.

Feature03

BOSS KIT MOUNTING

Supplied with the boss kit for vehicles with no driver airbag, and the original horn wiring is retained.

Feature04

FOUR WHEEL STYLES

Classic, Sports, Carbon Fibre and Forged Carbon Fibre, each in grey or black leather.

What each button does.

Buttons 1 to 4 run your cruise control directly if your vehicle has factory cruise or an Autostrada kit, so there's nothing to set on the headunit.

The audio and phone buttons work with every steering wheel control module. The cluster, radar and lane buttons depend on your vehicle and headunit.

PVS steering wheel buttons. Left pod: 5 Return, 6 OK up, 7 OK down, 8 OK press, 9 left arrow, 10 right arrow, 11 Phone, 12 volume down, 13 volume up, 14 voice. Right pod: 1 cruise on and off, 2 +RES, 3 -SET, 4 CANCEL, 15 MODE, 16 left, 17 right, 18 radar, 19 lane assist.
03
Compliance

Certified, not assumed.

An independent engineer assessed these wheels against the Australian design rules.

The steering wheel is part of the vehicle's safety system, so it is not a cosmetic part. Our wheels are certified for ADR compliance by ADR Compliance Services.

The Certificate of Compliance ships in the box, so you have the paperwork if your insurer or an inspector ever asks for it.

04
Installation

Easy DIY install. No workshop needed.

A careful owner can fit this at home with basic tools.

Before the wheel comes off: set the road wheels dead ahead and never turn the clock spring while the wheel is off the column. An over-rotated clock spring breaks the horn, cruise and airbag circuits, and it is a four figure repair at Toyota. Read the clock spring guide before you start.

There is no wire cutting. The boss kit mounts the new wheel to the factory column and the original horn wiring carries across.

The wireless module pairs the wheel's buttons to your headunit. If you get stuck, our Sydney team answers fitment questions directly.

Questions, answered.

What vehicles is this for?

Toyota LandCruiser 80 Series (1990 to 1998) vehicles without a factory driver airbag. It uses a boss kit mounting system and retains the original horn wiring. For the other type, use the Airbag Models product.

Why do I need to choose my headunit?

Because the wheel's buttons talk to a wireless control module rather than to the factory loom. Different headunits communicate in different ways, so selecting yours lets us supply the correct module kit and the controls work once installed.

Does this only change the look of the wheel?

No. You get the premium look and feel with improved materials and OEM-style fitment, plus full steering wheel control functionality through the included wireless module kit.

What about cruise control?

The base model 80 typically did not come with factory cruise control. If your vehicle has cruise control fitted and you would like to confirm compatibility with this upgrade, contact us. If your vehicle has no factory cruise control and you have no plans to add it, the right-hand side buttons on the wheel will be redundant, because those buttons are dedicated to cruise control.

Why does ADR compliance matter?

A steering wheel that is not certified for ADR compliance can put your insurance, your warranty and your safety at risk. Non-compliant wheels may not meet Australian design rules for airbag compatibility and crash performance. Our wheels are certified for ADR compliance by ADR Compliance Services, so you are buying a wheel built to Australian safety standards. This non-airbag kit is designed for vehicles without a driver airbag and is certified for that application.

What support do I get if I buy direct from PVS?

Buying direct gives you our Australian team for installation advice, fitment questions and after-sales support, plus the fitting resources to install it yourself.

Independently Assessed

Full ADR compliance. In writing, in the box.

Anyone can call a steering wheel compliant. We can show you the document. You can show it to a consulting engineer, a vehicle certifier or an inspector at the roadside.

PVS Automotive Certificate of Compliance, specimen copy

Specimen shown. The signed original ships in the box.

Your kit ships with the Certificate of Compliance. It records Test Report 240406, issued by ADR Compliance Services. Fit the wheel correctly and it complies with the Australian Design Rules listed here.

  • ADR 42/04 General Safety Requirements
  • ADR 69/00 Full Frontal Impact Occupant Protection
  • ADR 73/00 Offset Frontal Impact Occupant Protection
  • Included with every kit.Keep it with your service records. It's the paperwork an engineer or a certifier asks for, and your answer if you're ever pulled over.
  • The full report backs it up.We send it to consulting engineers and vehicle certifiers on request, in any state or territory, under a non-disclosure agreement.
  • Your clockspring is never replaced.Controls route through the PVS wireless module. Your factory clockspring and the SRS airbag circuit stay exactly as the factory built them.
  • Assessed as a complete system. The hub, the airbag module, the horn circuit, the column fitment and the forward field of view, not the rim on its own.

Looking to upgrade elsewhere? Ask for their certificate.

A wheel that's never been assessed has no report behind it, either way. If you're asked how the modification was assessed, you're the one who has to answer, not the seller.

  • No report to hand anyoneAn engineer, a certifier or an inspector can ask how the wheel was assessed. If it never was, you've got nothing to show them.
  • Your insurer is entitled to knowYour steering wheel is part of the airbag system, so your insurer needs to know you've changed it. Tell them, and tell them it's been assessed. Without that, they can reduce a claim or refuse it.
  • At fault, the bill can be yoursIf you're at fault and the wheel is found to have played a part, the repair bill can be yours. So can the other party's damage, and any injury claim.
  • Registration and your green slipYour state expects the vehicle to keep meeting the standards it was built to. Your registration depends on that. So does your green slip.
  • Most aftermarket wheels replace the clockspringThe clockspring is part of your SRS airbag circuit, and it's specific to your vehicle. Swap it for a generic one to get button contacts and you've cut into the original safety wiring.
  • No warranty and nobody to callOur lifetime core warranty and Sydney support cover PVS steering wheels. They don't cover a wheel you bought somewhere else.
It's the same wheel to look at. It's not the same buy. Ask any seller for their test report number and who issued it. If they can't give you one, there's no assessment behind the wheel.
What ADR Compliance Means

Compliance and insurance requirements differ by state and by insurer. Confirm your own position with a licensed automotive engineer and your insurer.
