Troubleshooting

Horn, Cruise, or Indicators Behave Oddly after a Wheel Change

Quick answer

Stop driving and get a qualified auto electrician to inspect it if your airbag warning lamp is on, or if the wheel was forced on the spline. Otherwise, re-check your alignment marks and connector seating.

Problem

  • Your horn, cruise or indicators behave oddly after a wheel change.

Symptoms

  • Your horn works only at certain wheel angles.
  • Cruise won't set, or it drops instantly.
  • Your indicators self-cancel oddly.

Cause

  • Horn booster wiring: you have to connect both the original horn wire and the PVS horn booster wire to the back of the horn pad. If one's missing, or you've swapped the pair, your horn won't sound.
  • Clock spring alignment you lost during the install.
  • Damaged ribbon from too many turns while you had the wheel off.
  • Connector not fully latched.

Fix Step-by-step

  1. Stop driving if your airbag warning lamp is lit, then book a diagnostic with a qualified auto electrician.
  2. If your horn is dead, check the back of the horn pad against the supplied wiring diagram: the original horn wire and the PVS horn booster wire both connect there. The horn booster video below walks you through the wiring.
  3. Don't force the wheel on the spline, and check the alignment marks against the factory procedure.
  4. If there's no warning lamp and your symptoms are minor, re-inspect the connectors for the torque and routing in the workshop manual.

Notes

Safety: we can't certify airbag repairs remotely, so get a licensed installer to do your clock-spring and SRS work.
