Quick answer
If you get a black screen, noise or rolling bars right after install, your headunit's video format usually doesn't match the camera. In camera settings, try the other standard (AHD or CVBS) one step at a time.
Problem
- Your picture is black, rolling or wrong when you reverse.
Symptoms
- You select reverse, the screen stays black but the reverse overlay or camera page appears.
- You get scrolling or rolling bars, or monochrome noise.
- The image is upside-down or the wrong aspect, and it was fine until you changed a setting.
Cause
- Format mismatch: your camera outputs AHD while the input expects CVBS, or the other way around.
- Cable or connector: an open shield, water wicking in, a bent centre pin.
- Adapter you fitted between the factory loom and the aftermarket headunit is on the wrong pinout.
- Loose extension on a long coax run.
Fix Step-by-step
- On the headunit, open camera settings and try the other video standard (AHD/CVBS/NTSC) one at a time, with a full reverse cycle between changes.
- Reseat every RCA and extension, then check behind the number plate for corrosion.
- Run a known-good camera on a short lead straight into the headunit input as a quick test.
- If you're running factory integration, compare your wiring to the supplier diagram, especially the shared ground references.
- Still wrong? Photograph both ends of the loom before you email support.
