Use this article if…
- You have a 79 Single Cab and the template in your hands says 4 Door
- You're about to mark and cut a door card for speaker door pods
- Your 6x9 speakers hit the door framing
Pick the template that matches your doors
Match the sheet to your body style before you mark anything.
- 79 Single Cab front doors use Door Pod Drilling Template, 2 Door Front.
- 79 Dual Cab front doors use Door Pod Drilling Template, 4 Door Front.
- 79 Dual Cab rear doors use Door Pod Drilling Template, 4 Door Rear.
The same 2 door sheet also covers the 71 to 78 Troop Carrier. The 4 door sheets cover the 76 Wagon as well as the Dual Cab.
Mark the door card from the sheet
Take your time here, because a hole in a door card can't be undone.
- Print the 2 Door Front sheet at 100 per cent if you have the PDF.
- Clip the sheet to the back of the door card.
- Mark the holes from the sheet.
- Cut the door card for the speaker, its wiring and its magnet.
No 70 Series door card has a factory speaker hole, so the door card is always cut.
Cut the door metal if you're fitting 6x9s
The door card is only half the job when the speaker is a 6x9.
Whether the door metal behind the card gets cut depends on the speaker size. A 6x9 needs the door opening cut to fit.
If a 6x9 hits the door framing, the opening hasn't been cut yet. That cut is part of the install.
If your kit is an early one
The first template shipped with the early Speaker Door Pods put the speaker cut-out too high on the door card. Confirm your template with support before you drill, and use a support ticket to do it.
