MK4 Headunit Steering Wheel Controls: Connect and Program

The MK4 reads the steering wheel buttons on Connector 3. A 2023 or later 70 Series wheel plugs straight in, and with a PVS steering wheel kit the receiver does the job. Either way you map the buttons in the SWC app.

The MK4 reads the buttons the same way on the 9 inch and the 12.1 inch.

The model number is on the front of the unit or on the label on top of the chassis.

How It Connects

With a PVS steering wheel kit on a pre-2023 70 Series, the Android receiver hands the buttons to the MK4 through Connector 3.

  1. Steering wheelThe buttons send to a transmitter behind the wheel, powered by the horn circuit.
  2. ReceiverSits behind the headunit and picks the buttons up wirelessly. It comes paired.
  3. Factory radio plugsThe receiver's harness sits in line with the factory radio plugs.
  4. Connector 3The MK4's plug for the steering controls and the factory camera.

The PVS Part

The Android version of the PVS wireless module. It hands the buttons to the headunit on the Key 1 and Key 2 wires, and you map each one in the headunit's steering wheel app.

Program the Buttons

You map every button in the SWC app on the MK4.

  1. Open the SWC app

    It's with the other apps on the unit.

  2. Screen first, then the wheel

    Tap the function, then press the matching button on the wheel once.

  3. Press once, don't hold

    Hold a button only when you're adding a long press second function.

  4. Save

    Press Save, then turn the unit off and on and try every button.

Plug in hereConnector 3 on the MK4 harness is the plug for the steering wheel controls and the factory camera. The two key lines are pins 6 and 7, orange and orange with a black stripe.
PVS partThe Android version of the PVS wireless module. It hands the buttons to the headunit on the Key 1 and Key 2 wires, and you map each one in the headunit's steering wheel app.

  1. Check Connector 3 is fully plugged in.
  2. Open the SWC app.
  3. Tap the function on the screen, then press the matching steering wheel button once.
  4. Work through every button, then press Save.
  5. Turn the unit off and on, then try every button before the fascia goes back on.
  • On a 2023 or later 70 Series the factory wheel plugs straight in through Connector 3, with no module.
  • With a PVS steering wheel kit on a pre-2023 70 Series, choose the Android / PVS / Polaris / Aerpro option. The receiver comes paired, so leave the button on it alone.
  • Only hold a button when you're adding a long press second function.
