Fits the LandCruiser and Hilux.
Compatibility: 12-pin steering wheel controlsBuilt for upgrading to a 200 Series or 300 Series steering wheel. Both use the 12-pin control connector, and every variant here ships with a 12-pin harness.This module suits vehicles that do not already have factory steering wheel controls. If your wheel uses a different connector it will not plug in.Cutting or re-pinning the loom is a modification. It ends the warranty and the wiring support. Not sure what your wheel uses? Send us a photo of the back of it before you buy.
Read Before You Buy This module cannot make another wheel ADR compliant. It adds the buttons. It does not carry a compliance assessment across to a steering wheel bought somewhere else.
  • No certificate to show an engineer, a certifier or an inspector
  • An unassessed change to the airbag and steering system can affect an insurance claim

Design Notes

Why this module exists.

Every 70 Series LandCruiser built before the facelift left the factory without steering wheel controls. If you want them, the obvious path is to swap the clock spring for one with the right contacts. The clock spring is an essential part of the SRS airbag system, so PVS elected to design around it rather than replace it.

This module is that alternative. It taps only into the horn power circuit, so there is no need to touch the clock spring, cut any factory wiring, or build a custom loom. The result is a fully reversible install that works with the most popular aftermarket headunits on the market.

Select the headunit brand installed in your vehicle from the variant options above. The kit is matched accordingly so the controls map correctly from the moment you plug in.

02

Built for a clean install.

Everything about this kit is designed to keep your vehicle as close to factory as possible while adding the functionality you need.
Feature01

NO CLOCK SPRING REPLACEMENT

The module operates entirely through the horn power circuit, so the factory clock spring stays in place. Your vehicle remains ADR compliant and roadworthy.

Feature02

PLUG-AND-PLAY SETUP

No custom wiring loom and no dash surgery required. The kit connects using existing circuits for a straightforward, reversible installation.

Feature03

BROAD HEADUNIT COMPATIBILITY

Select your headunit brand at checkout. The kit supports Factory Toyota Radio, Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony, JVC, Android units, PVS, Polaris, and Aerpro headunits.

03

Vehicle fitment.

This module is for LandCruisers that left the factory with no steering wheel controls at all. On these vehicles the clock spring carries a horn wire only, plus a separate plug for factory cruise control if it is fitted. The module gives a 12-pin 200 Series or 300 Series wheel working buttons without touching the clock spring.
70 Series pre-facelift / 80 Series / 100 Series
01 70 Series LandCruiser 70 Series, pre-facelift 2007 to 2023 No factory controls
02 80 Series LandCruiser 80 Series 1990 to 1998 No factory controls
03 100 Series LandCruiser 100 and 105 Series 1998 to 2007 No factory controls
04

Installation overview.

Installation is designed to be clean and reversible. The steps below outline the general process.
No custom loom
01

SELECT YOUR VARIANT

Choose the headunit brand installed in your vehicle before you begin. The module is configured to match your selected headunit for correct button mapping.

02

CONNECT TO HORN CIRCUIT

The module draws power from the horn power circuit only. No modification to the clock spring or factory steering column wiring is required.

03

CONNECT TO HEADUNIT

Plug the module into your aftermarket headunit using the appropriate interface connection. No custom loom is needed.

04

TEST CONTROLS

Confirm each steering wheel control function operates correctly through your headunit before refitting any trim panels.

05
Before You Buy

Check your wheel is 12-pin.

This module reads a 12-pin steering wheel control connector. Every genuine PVS 300 Series wheel is 12-pin, and so is a factory 200 Series facelift wheel. If the plug on the back of your wheel is not 12-pin, it will not connect to this kit.

This catches people out. A lot of 200 and 300 Series style wheels sold through Marketplace and overseas sellers arrive with a 10-pin plug instead. Those wheels were built for a pre-facelift 200 Series or 150 Prado, which has a 10-pin clock spring and already has factory controls. They were never designed for a vehicle that has no controls at all, which is the vehicle this module is for. Same looking wheel, wrong plug, and no amount of wiring at our end changes that.

So before you order, turn your wheel over and count the pins in the control plug. If you are not sure, send us a photo of the back of the wheel and we will tell you straight away whether it will work. We would rather answer that question before you buy than after.

If the loom is cut. Cutting, splicing or re-pinning the harness is a modification, and once that is done the lifetime electronics warranty no longer applies and we are not able to support the wiring. We do not supply pin-outs, and we do not supply 12-pin to 10-pin conversion diagrams for wheels we did not sell, because we do not hold the drawings for them. An unmodified kit can go back within 30 days.

Buying another wheel? It will not be ADR compliant.

This module adds the buttons. It cannot make somebody else's steering wheel compliant. A wheel that has never been assessed cannot be shown to keep your vehicle compliant, and you are the one who gets asked to explain it.

  • No report to hand anyoneA consulting engineer, a vehicle certifier or an inspector at the roadside can ask how the modification was assessed. Without an assessment there is nothing to show them.
  • Your insurer is entitled to knowChanging a part of the airbag and steering system is a material modification. If it has not been disclosed and assessed, a claim can be reduced or refused.
  • At fault, the exposure is yoursIf an unassessed modification is found to have contributed to a crash, you can be left carrying the repair bill, the other party's damage and a personal injury claim.
  • Registration and your green slipYour state requires the vehicle to keep complying with the standards it was built to. Registration, and the green slip attached to it, both rest on that.
  • Most aftermarket wheels replace the clockspringThe clockspring is part of the SRS airbag circuit and is specific to your vehicle. Swapping it for a generic unit to gain button contacts cuts into the original safety wiring.
  • No warranty and nobody to callOur lifetime core warranty and Sydney based support cover PVS steering wheels. They do not cover a wheel bought somewhere else.
Our upgrade kits include this module in the price. The steering wheel, the wireless controls module, the wiring and the Certificate of Compliance, assessed as one system and matched to your vehicle. Before you buy the module on its own, price the kit.

This is what comes with a PVS kit.

  • ADR 42/04 General Safety Requirements
  • ADR 69/00 Full Frontal Impact Occupant Protection
  • ADR 73/00 Offset Frontal Impact Occupant Protection
  • It goes in the box.Keep it with your service records. Hand it to an engineer, a certifier or an inspector who asks.
  • The full report is available.Supplied to consulting engineers and vehicle certifiers on request, under a non-disclosure agreement.
  • Your clockspring stays in the car.Controls route through the PVS wireless module, so the factory clockspring and the SRS airbag circuit are untouched.
