Before you book a certifier
Talk to a certifier before you build. Get one on the phone before you start the significant work. You'll pay a lot more to fix it afterwards.
Check their licence categories. A certifier is only authorised for specific modification types. Confirm they hold the right category for the work you're doing.
Document the build. Photograph each stage, keep your receipts, keep the compliance paperwork that came with the parts.
Fit ADR compliant parts. Independently assessed parts make certification simpler. Fit a part with no compliance documentation behind it and you're up for extra work and extra cost.
Budget for a range. A straightforward modification starts around $500, and complex builds run to $5,000+.
