JVC Headunit Steering Wheel Controls: Where to Plug In

Your PVS steering wheel connects to the JVC's REMO IN input with the 28-pin patch lead, then the JVC learns each button. Type your model to see whether yours has the socket and where it is.

Find Your Model

Type your JVC model to see whether it has a REMO IN socket or steering wires.

The model number is on the front of the unit or on the label on top of the chassis.

How It Connects

The patch lead carries the steering wheel buttons to the JVC, which learns each one.

  1. Steering wheelThe buttons send to a transmitter behind the wheel, powered by the horn circuit.
  2. ReceiverSits behind the headunit and picks the buttons up wirelessly. It comes paired.
  3. 28-pin patch leadJoins the receiver's 28-pin plug and ends in a 3.5 mm plug.
  4. REMO INJVC's learning input, a 3.5 mm socket on the back or on a short lead.

The PVS Part

The 28-pin patch lead. One end joins the 28-pin plug on the PVS receiver, the other is a 3.5 mm plug for the headunit's steering input. It's in every kit and module ordered with this option.

28-Pin Patch Lead, sold as a spare ›

Program the Buttons

JVC learns the buttons itself. Where the menu sits depends on the model.

  1. Park with the ignition on

Some units only let you set buttons while parked.

  2. Open the learning menu

Steering Remote Controller under User Interface on most units, or SWC Learning under Input Setup on the KW-M795BW and KW-Z900W.

  3. Teach each button

Touch a function on the screen, then press and hold the matching button on the wheel until it registers.

  4. Save at the end

Touch Done, Save or Learning completed once every button is learned.

Three-Wire Units

Some headunits have three steering wires instead of a 3.5 mm socket. Join the Key 1 and Key 2 wires on the PVS kit loom to the unit's two steering inputs, matched by the label and colour in each model card. The third wire is the ground: it doesn't need connecting, but you can join it to ground if you need to. Newer headunits use the 3.5 mm socket.

JVC Models

Each card shows the steering input on that model and the menu that learns the buttons, checked against JVC's own manual.
