Every MK4 ships with a tempered Gorilla Glass screen protector already fitted over the display. This is the spare: if yours gets chipped, scratched or cracked, lift the old glass off and fit this one in its place. The display underneath stays unaffected.
The protector on your MK4 is glass, not a plastic shipping film, and it's meant to stay on. Prying it off like a film is how screens get chipped, so only lift it if you're replacing it with a new one.
