How to Connect CarPlay or Android Auto on the 12.1 Inch PVS Headunit (79 Series)

Connect wired first. Plug an Apple-certified data cable into the unit and clear any old cars from your iPhone's CarPlay list. Then unlock the phone and accept the prompts. Add wireless once you've had one good wired session.

Use this article if…

  • You've fitted the 12.1 inch MK4 in a 79 Series and CarPlay hasn't started.
  • Your phone pairs but nothing opens on the screen.
  • You want Android Auto instead of CarPlay.

Connect CarPlay the first time

Start with a cable. Wired CarPlay is the cleanest way to get the first session going.

  1. Plug an Apple-certified data cable straight into the headunit.
  2. On your iPhone, clear any old cars from your CarPlay list.
  3. Unlock the phone past the lock screen.
  4. Accept the prompts on the phone and the headunit.

Wired and wireless CarPlay are both supported on the MK4.

Switch to Android Auto

The unit opens in Apple CarPlay mode, so an Android phone needs the mode changed first.

  1. Open the PVS Link app on the headunit.
  2. Tap the four square apps icon.
  3. Select Android Auto.

If your phone pairs but nothing ever opens, you're almost always still in the wrong mode.

If CarPlay or Android Auto still won't start

A stale pairing is the usual cause. Clear it on both sides.

  1. Delete the headunit from your phone's Bluetooth list.
  2. Delete it from the CarPlay or Android Auto car list as well.
  3. Reboot the phone and the headunit.
  4. Pair again from the headunit's wizard with a known good data cable.

For Android Auto, update the Android Auto app and use a proven data USB-C cable.

If it stopped after a software update

Treat it as a fresh connection and repeat the steps above.

  1. Clear the old headunit entry from your phone's CarPlay or Android Auto list.
  2. Reboot the phone and the headunit.
  3. Connect by cable first, then add wireless.

Run it wired when you're on Starlink or driving under toll gantries

Wired doesn't use your phone's Wi-Fi, so your phone can stay on another network. Wired also avoids the short audio pause wireless CarPlay can have under a toll gantry.
