How to install and set up Torque Pro on an Android head unit

Pair your Bluetooth OBD2 adapter under Settings first, then install Torque Pro from the Google Play Store and point it at that adapter. Torque cannot find an adapter the head unit has not already paired.

What this gives you

Coolant and transmission temperatures, boost, RPM, throttle position, lambda and live fault codes, laid out as gauges on the dash screen. On a 70 Series that is information the vehicle otherwise gives you no way to see, and it is the difference between guessing on a long climb and knowing.

Before you start

  • A Bluetooth OBD2 adapter, ELM327 compatible, already paired to the unit.
  • A Google account signed in on the unit, so the Play Store works.
  • Torque Pro is a paid app sold by its developer on Google Play. We do not supply it.

Step by step

  1. Pair the adapter first

Go to Settings, then Bluetooth, and pair the OBD2 adapter. Do this before you install or open Torque. Skipping it is the single most common reason Torque reports no connection.

  2. Install Torque Pro from the Play Store

Open the Play Store, search for Torque Pro, and install it. It is a paid app, so you will need a payment method on your Google account.

  3. Point Torque at the adapter

Open Torque, go to Settings, then OBD2 Adapter Settings, then Connection Type, and choose Bluetooth. Then open Choose Bluetooth Device and select your adapter from the paired list.

  4. Start the engine and let it connect

Back out to the main screen. The connection indicator turns green once Torque is talking to the vehicle. The engine needs to be running for live data.

  5. Build the dashboard you actually want

Long press on the gauge screen to add a display, then choose the reading. Coolant temperature, boost and transmission temperature are the ones most 70 Series owners set up first.

If it does not work

  • No connection at all: check the adapter is paired under Settings and Bluetooth, not just plugged in.
  • Connects but no data: make sure the engine is running, and check the adapter is fully seated in the port.
  • Some readings missing: not every vehicle publishes every value. A reading the vehicle does not send cannot be displayed.

Worth knowing

Torque runs on the head unit itself, so the gauges stay on screen without a phone connected and without using your phone battery.
